In August 2025, the U.S. recall landscape saw serious safety alerts involving software malfunctions, failing displays, and detachable exterior parts. Among the vehicles recalled were major trucks such as the Ford F-150, and SUVs such as the Kia Telluride. As recall news hit, it reinforced a critical lesson: even modern vehicles with advanced systems are not immune to defects that erode safety, visibility and control.

If the August automotive recall news leaves you worried about whether your vehicle qualifies as a lemon, The Beck Law Office is here to help you explore your options under California law.

In this post, we will break down the major recalls of August 2025 in the U.S., highlight what the issue involves, and underscore why owners must watch for notifications, visit dealers and act promptly.

Which Vehicles Were Recalled in August 2025?

Here are some of the most significant vehicles recalled in August, with details of the issue involved, how many units are affected and the status of any fix campaigns:

1. Ford – Instrument Panel / Display Failure

  • Make/Models: 2025 Ford F-150 (and various Ford “Super Duty” trucks: F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550).

  • Issue: The instrument panel cluster (IPC) may fail at startup, leading to a blank screen that prevents drivers from seeing critical information (such as speed, warning lights, etc.). This visibility defect increases the risk of a crash when drivers cannot monitor critical gauges.

  • Number Recalled: ~355,656 vehicles.

  • Remedy: A software update (dealer or over-the-air) will be provided free to affected owners.

2. Ford – Rear Axle Hub Bolt / Rollaway Risk (F-150)

  • Make/Models: 2023–2025 Ford F-150 models with Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75″ heavy-duty axle (¾ float design).

  • Issue: A rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can damage hub splines and lead to vehicle rollaway when in park without the parking brake applied. In other cases, it could lead to loss of control.

  • Number Recalled: ~103,174 trucks.

  • Remedy: Dealers and manufacturers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies free of charge.

  • Notice Timing: Owner letters began August 18, and the recall spans through May 2026 for the full rollout.

3. Ford – Seat Belt Chime / Power Brake Assist (2025 Models)

  • Make/Models: 2025 Ford F-150 hybrid (seat belt chime defect); 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco, Ranger (loss of power brake assist).

  • Issue: The audible seat belt chime may not activate when a seat belt is unbuckled, violating FMVSS 208. Furthermore, the electronic brake booster (EBB) module may malfunction while driving or during use of ADAS features, causing loss of power brake assist, which could increase stopping distance.

  • Number Recalled:

    • Seat belt chime: ~56,473 vehicles.

    • Power brake assist: ~312,120 vehicles.

  • Remedy: The issue will be addressed either over-the-air (OTA) or via dealership updates, at no charge.

  • Make/Models: 2022 F-150 vehicles previously repaired under recalls 22V686 and 23V802.

  • Issue: The parking lights may flicker when the headlights are on, which is a violation of FMVSS 108 (“Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment”). Flickering lights reduce visibility and increase crash risk.

  • Number Recalled: Not publicly confirmed; part of a broader repair coverage.

  • Remedy: Dealers will address the flicker defect at no cost.

5. Ford – Lincoln Corsair Rearview Camera Malfunction

  • Make/Models: 2020–2022 Lincoln Corsair.

  • Issue: The rearview camera may show a distorted image, no image, or intermittent display due to corrosion at the camera harness/connector, reducing rearward visibility.

Notable Trends from August’s Recall Roundup

The August automotive recall news reinforces several persistent themes in vehicle safety:

  1. Software and Electronics Defects: Such as instrument cluster failures, EBB module malfunctions and rearview camera malfunctions are becoming as common as mechanical faults.

  2. Ford Continues to Dominate Recall Headlines: From F-150 instrument panel failures to axle hub bolt defects and power brake assist issues. Several recalls even affect the newest 2025 model year vehicles.

  3. Vehicle Rollaway and Axle/Hub Failures: These issues are especially alarming because they can occur even when the car is parked.

  4. Visibility Problems: Rearview camera malfunctions, distorted or blank displays - are key safety risks, particularly during reverse or parking maneuvers.

  5. Persistent Older Vehicles Concerns: Such as Range Rover model years 2014–2017, still face structural/NHTSA-level recalls, showing that aging fleets remain vulnerable.

This month, Several complaints have pointed to front suspension issues that increase the risk of instability and potential crashes if left unaddressed.

Why These Recalls Matter to Every Driver

Even if your vehicle isn’t listed above, these recalls signal deeper lessons:

  • Increasing Complexity = Increasing Risk: As vehicles embed more electronics, software, and power-assist systems, the potential for malfunctions, distortions and unexpected failures rises.

  • No Vehicle is Immune: Whether you own a truck or car, new or old, gasoline or hybrid, every vehicle remains vulnerable to latent defects.

  • Owner Action is Essential: Notifications from manufacturers are required by law, but it’s up to vehicle owners to monitor recall status, visit the dealership and ensure repairs are made.

  • Timeliness Matters: Delaying a fix or replacement can transform a warning into an incident - a minor defect into a road hazard, injury risk or crash.

  • Fleet Operators Must Be Especially Vigilant: A single unaddressed recall in a commercial truck can lead to liability and severe consequences.

How to Check if Your Vehicle is Affected

Staying informed is the first step toward safety. Recalls are only effective if owners know about them, and not every notification makes it through the mail. By using the tools below, you can quickly confirm whether your vehicle is affected and take action before a minor defect turns into a serious problem.

Here’s a quick checklist to stay ahead of recalls:

  1. NHTSA Website: Use the VIN lookup tool at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

  2. Manufacturer Portal: Many brands allow you to enter your VIN on their recall or “owner” websites.

  3. Dealership: Give your VIN to your brand’s authorized dealer and ask them to check open recalls.

  4. Watch for Notice Letters: Automakers send mail or email recall notices; many include a download link or QR code to check or schedule repairs

  5. Set Alerts: Some sites allow you to comment, subscribe, or download reminders when recalls are issued for your make/model.
