In March, a wide range of vehicle recalls were announced across the United States, affecting several models from numerous automakers. The recalls addressed various safety concerns, such as transmission malfunctions, fire risks, software error issues and defects in components such as seat belts, tires, brake systems, steering columns and more.
Tesla Steals the Spotlight
In March, a significant vehicle safety recall garnered widespread media attention as Tesla issued a recall for nearly all of its Cybertrucks produced between November 2023 and February 2025, totalling over 46,000 vehicles. The recall was due to a defect where a stainless steel trim panel, known as the cantrail, could detach while driving, posing a potential hazard to other motorists.
Cybertruck Faces Eighth Recall
This recall was particularly notable because it marked the eighth recall for the Cybertruck since its release, highlighting ongoing quality control challenges for Tesla. Unlike some previous recalls that could be addressed through over-the-air software updates, this issue required owners to bring their vehicles to a service center for physical repairs.

In this March round-up, we will break down all the major vehicle recalls in the US, highlighting the affected models, safety concerns and how many units were impacted.

🔍 How to Check if Your Vehicle Has Been Recalled
If you are unsure whether your vehicle is part of a recent recall, it is quick and easy to find out:
1. Locate Your VIN
Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a 17-character code that can usually be found:
On the driver’s side dashboard (visible through the car's windshield).
Inside the driver’s side door frame.
On your vehicle registration details or insurance documents.
2. Use the NHTSA Recall Lookup Tool
Visit the official NHTSA recall website and enter your VIN. This tool will show any open recalls specific to your vehicle. If you have an open recall, get your vehicle repaired immediately - this is usually for free. You can even download NHTSA's free SaferCar app to get recall information sent straight to your phone.
3. Sign Up for Alerts
You can also sign up for email alerts on the NHTSA website to be notified if a future recall affects your vehicle.
4. Contact Your Dealer
If you are still unsure, call your vehicle’s manufacturer or local dealership. They can check recall status and schedule any necessary repairs — usually free of charge.
